School Counselor

Our school counselors are dedicated champions for your child’s success—both inside and outside the classroom.

Following the highest national standards set by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), our school counselors design and deliver comprehensive programs focused on three core areas: academic growth, college and career readiness, and social-emotional development.

Our school counselors do more than just guide schedules; they partner closely with families, teachers, and administrators to ensure every student has the resources and support they need to thrive.

How We Help Students Succeed

To support our school's mission and ensure equal opportunities for all students, our school counselors focus on:

Academic & Future Planning

  • Goal Setting: Guiding students through individual academic planning to keep them on track.
  • Life After High School: Helping students and families explore and plan for postsecondary options, including college, trades, and the workforce.
  • Classroom Lessons: Teaching proactive lessons based on student success standards and essential life skills.
  • Small Group Instruction: School counselors will meet with identified students to provide additional short-term supports.

Social & Emotional Well-Being

  • Direct Support: Providing short-term, solution-focused counseling for students facing day-to-day challenges.
  • Community Connections: Assisting families with trusted referrals for long-term counseling or outside support when needed.

Advocacy & Collaboration

  • Student Advocacy: Serving as a dedicated voice for student needs and well-being.
  • Teamwork: Collaborating daily with parents, teachers, and community leaders to create a supportive environment.
  • Data-Driven Solutions: Analyzing school data to identify specific student needs, challenges, and barriers to learning.
  • Championing Equity: Acting as agents of change to ensure every single student has equal access to high achievement and future opportunities.

Supporting Students

To ensure all students have the resources they need to succeed, we also offer a full-time social worker dedicated to providing needed supports to students.

Exploring Futures

It's never too early for students to start thinking about their futures! To help students explore future career paths and discover their personal strengths, the EVSC utilizes a program called Naviance, a comprehensive college and career readiness platform. Naviance provides students with tools to explore career interests, research colleges, and develop essential skills.

We encourage families to take some time and explore Naviance with your student today!
